About this forum
The Israeli Forum on Ethical Review of Academic Research was established in order to serve as a platform for peer collaboration and consultation amongst interested colleagues.
Unlike the ethical review of bio-medical research, nationally regulated for many years, the discourse on academic research outside the medical field is still quite novice. The lack of a coherent and unified regulatory management of such ethical review creates a significant diversity amongst academic institutions and some uncertainty amongst researchers.
The Forum on Ethical Review of Academic Research was initiated by a research project, funded by the Israeli Science Fund (2016-2017), which investigated the ethical review boards in the Israeli academy. The findings of this research showed a common need for an interdisciplinary and multi-institutional discussion on the different issues arising from ethical review of academic research.
The research exposed a lack of support regarding the design of ethical review (including the establishment and management of Ethical Review Boards, their immersion in the institution or their counter-relations with other boards) as well as substantial ethical issues, arising in specific research projects.
Researchers, members of ethical review boards and other interested colleagues are welcomed to join this forum and to contribute from their knowledge and experience to the discussions in it.
